Dos Pueblos girls soccer broke its streak of five straight ties with a convincing 4-0 win over Ventura on Tuesday at Scott O'Leary Stadium.
"This was a well-deserved win for the team," Chargers head coach Marco Medina said. "They were determined to turn things around after a series of ties plus we were missing a total of nine players by the end of the night due to illness and injury.
"The players shared the ball, finished on set pieces and once again played outstanding defense to earn the shutout. The team played with a lot of composure, efficiency and with some extra physical play. Credit to Kaley Orquiola, Celeste Alcaraz and Jenny Polunets for all the work in the midfield."
The scoring began in the eighth minute when Maleka Wilcox served a corner kick into the box, where Anya Newton headed the ball into the net.
The two sides then went scoreless for the ensuing 60 minutes as both defenses consistently turned away scoring opportunities.
The Chargers finally broke through again in the 71st minute when Wilcox played a through ball to Alina Seidel, who outran a pair of defenders and beat the Ventura goalkeeper for the 2-0 lead.
Dos Pueblos rounded out the scoring with a pair of corner-kick goals in the final 10 minutes courtesy of Newton and Brooklyn Hedricks. Both were assisted by Wilcox to finish off her four-assist performance.
The Chargers (6-2-7, 2-0-7 Channel League) will take on Buena on the road on Thursday at 5:15 p.m.
The Royals came away with a road victory over Pacifica on Tuesday in Oxnard.
Zeina Matni scored the lone goal for San Marcos to improve the team's overall record to 7-4-3 and its league mark to 4-2-3, good for third in the Channel League.
"Great result winning on the road," Royals head coach Miguel Vences said. "The girls played some of the best football they've played all season.
"Zeina again was able to come up big when we really needed a goal and then it was a team effort in closing out the game by being able to keep the ball and control the game with our build-up play."
