Oklahoma State upsets Iowa State, storms court in second consecutive ISU loss

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State's defense didn't play like advertised.

Entering Iowa State's 74-68 loss at OSU, the Cowboys had given up 93 or more points each of their past three games and ranked No. 305 out of 355 teams in total defense.

Iowa State never led in the game.

Without starting point guard Keshon Gilbert, who missed his second game with a muscle strain, turnovers afflicted the Cyclones (21-7 overall, 11-6 Big 12).

ISU finished with 17 turnovers, one shy of the season record, and has reached double-digit turnovers in six consecutive games. The most hurtful ones Tuesday were ISU's live-ball turnovers where Cowboys (14-14,6-11) outmuscled Cyclones in one-on-one matchups.

In the first half, ISU point guard Tamin Lipsey lost one of those individual battles when Marchelus "Chi Chi" Avery stripped the ball as Lipsey dribbled it past the halfcourt stripe. Avery pulled up and made a transition right-wing 3-pointer that put OSU up 33-24.

OSU scored 24 points off of turnovers while the Cyclones managed 10.

Avery came up with another turnover six minutes into the second half. He stole the ball away from Curtis Jones and passed it ahead to OSU guard Bryce Thompson. Thompson cashed the turnover with a right-wing 3-pointer to put OSU up 49-39.
