The Andhra Pradesh government has officially abolished the garbage tax imposed during the previous YSRCP regime. The tax was revoked through government orders issued on December 31 last year. Following an amendment to the Municipal Act, the government has now released a gazette notification confirming that the garbage tax will no longer be applicable in the state.
The imposition of the tax had drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders, who consistently opposed it. During the election campaign, the issue was prominently highlighted, with coalition leaders pledging to repeal the tax if elected. In line with this promise, the newly formed government has now officially scrapped the garbage tax.
