BACKGROUND:

Veterans, service members, their families and friends, and all members of the community are encouraged to stop by this pop-up event to learn more about the VA health care and benefits they have earned with their military service. These benefits include disability compensation, pension, education and training, health care, home loans, housing assistance, insurance, Veteran Readiness and Employment, and burial services.

The New Mexico Department of Veterans' Service will be present to assist with VA benefit claims.

VET CENTERS:

Vet Centers are community-based counseling centers providing a broad range of counseling, outreach, and referral services, free-of-charge in a safe and confidential environment to eligible Veterans, active-duty service members (including National Guard and Reserve), and their families.

Vet Center counselors and outreach staff, many of whom are Veterans themselves, are experienced and prepared to discuss the tragedies of war, loss, grief and transition after trauma. Services include, but are not limited to, Post-Traumatic Stress, Military Sexual Trauma, and bereavement counseling; marriage and family therapy; resources for suicide intervention; and assistance with VA benefits.

SUICIDE PREVENTION:

There is nothing more important to VA than preventing Veteran suicide -- it's our top clinical priority. Tragically, our nation's Veterans are at a higher risk for suicide compared to the general population. Everyone plays a role in suicide prevention.

If you're a Veteran in crisis or concerned about one, contact the Veterans Crisis Line to receive 24/7 confidential support. You don't have to be enrolled in VA benefits or health care to connect. To reach responders, Dial 988 then Press 1, chat online at VeteransCrisisLine.net, or text 838255.
