Truck driver, 60, dies after big rig catches fire in Indiana crash

INDIANAPOLIS (WKRC) -- A semi-driver died when his big rig caught fire after a crash in Indiana.

According to WXIN, a fire claimed a semi-driver's life after a crash, which occurred at 10:40 a.m. on Interstate 65 last Thursday.

Officials with the Indianapolis Fire Department told the outlet that the semi-driver died after his truck left the roadway and struck several signs and a guardrail before catching fire. When speaking to WXIN, authorities said the driver was a 60-year-old man, adding that the big rig was hauling wood pallets at the time.

WXIN reported that firefighters struggled to battle the flames due to water supply issues because no hydrants were in the area. According to the station, it took around 45 minutes before the blaze was under control.

The incident left I-65 closed for hours, WXIN reported. The identity of the semi-driver was not released.
