If you missed Keke Palmer's recent appearance on Club Shay Shay, it's a must-see. Palmer, who has been through her share of challenges in recent years, opened up about her relationship with her son's father, her family, and her career on the popular podcast.
But when she got in a little dig at Sharpe, you realized Palmer misses no opportunity to be funny. Remember her viral "Sorry to this man, I don't know this man" when she was asked to identify a photo of former vice-president Dick Cheney? Palmer is always one interview away from a good viral moment, and her appearance on Club Shay Shay delivered.
Palmer, 31, dropped many great gems in the interview, including her relationship with Darius Jackson. After trading accusations of mental and physical abuse, they seemed headed for permanent toxicity before the former couple worked it out for the sake of their son, Leodis, now almost 2.
It's been reported that Jackson is now in the military. On Club Shay Shay, Palmer said that while people think you have to be equally financially matched with your partner, that's unrealistic when you're a high earner, especially at a young age. She said it's more important to figure out whether or not you're capable of being in a committed relationship by recognizing whether you're a 'we' or a 'me' kind of person.
And in an emotional moment that brought the actress to tears, she said she'd willingly taken on being her family's breadwinner at a young age. Her Disney show True Jackson VP made her a millionaire in middle school.
"My parents, at their best, never made more than $40,000 a year," she said. "I was making that a show."
But she said that while it was often lonely and challenging for her as a child actress, her family bonded, staying close through the transition from her child acting days into her adult career. She says her parents sacrificed so she could succeed, so sharing her financial blessings with them was baked into her triumphs.
In the course of the hour-plus interview, Keke got in the zinger about Sharpe's sexual exploits. You'll remember a few months ago, Sharpe was overheard on an IG Live having sex with a woman named Michelle.
Sharpe initially denied it, saying he was hacked, then said he "accidentally" turned on the Instagram live video. While online skeptics said it's very difficult to go live on Instagram mistakenly, the jokes at Sharpe's expense kept coming, and any controversy over the incident quickly turned to comedy.
Keke added to the roasting. When Sharpe asked her about making out with older guys onscreen, Palmer referenced kissing another actor when she was 12 and he was 17. She said the age discrepancies onscreen kept coming.
"I experienced the same thing in another movie that I did where the guy was -- I was 17, and he was like, 27," Palmer said.
"You like 'em older, huh?" Sharpe asked.
"That's what Michelle said," Palmer deadpanned to laughter from Sharpe and his crew.
"Oh, my goodness. Come on, Keke! It's too soon! You've been waiting for that!" he said.
"They don't call you hunky unc-y for nothing," Palmer added. "You better gone 'head!"
Palmer's appearance on Club Shay Shay coincided with her book release, Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative, which dropped this week.
