Thursday was the first day of spring, but that isn't stopping snow from potentially falling on some parts of Massachusetts next week.
There's a chance that a brief period of wet snow will fall on higher elevations in the interior of the state on Monday morning, said Candice Hrencecin, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service.
Cape Cod also has a very slim chance of snow Monday, according to the National Weather Service, with a window of rain and snow possible between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.
Hrencecin said the snow will most likely be in the Berkshires.
The snow isn't likely to accumulate much, and the precipitation will most likely switch to rain in the late morning.
Cape Cod's brief chance at snow will also likely be swept away by rain, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
Historically, snow tends to fall after spring anywhere in Massachusetts, according to NWS Boston.
Hrencecin said they don't have an outlook on whether it will snow again after Monday, but the 3-4-week outlook from the NWS's Climate Prediction Center show that the temperature in Massachusetts is likely to be warmer than normal with a normal amount of precipitation.
This year, the first day of spring was March 20, 2025.
The first day of spring always falls on the spring equinox, which happens every year on March 19, 20, or 21. At this moment, night and day are roughly the same length.
After the spring equinox, the days grow progressively longer until the end of the season at the summer solstice.
