Just six of 48 teams trailing 3-1 in a best-of-seven World Series have rallied to win, including four of 22 who had to win Games 6 and 7 on the road in the current 2-3-2 format.
While the past three teams down 3-1 in the World Series (the 2023 D-backs, 2021 Astros and 2018 Dodgers) have lost, the 2016 Cubs do provide a recent glimmer of hope thanks to their incredible comeback against Cleveland. Still, their triumph snapped a 10-World Series losing streak for clubs in such a dire position after four games, with the previous victory coming via the 1985 Royals against the Cardinals -- aided by one of the most infamous missed calls in baseball history.
