Jon Stewart Bags Praise After 'The Daily Show' Turns Bloody

The TV presenter experienced a minor accident on air today, and the audience is cheering him for displaying peak professionalism despite the mess.

Jon Stewart returned to "The Daily Show" in January 2024, after he ruled the studio between 1999 to 2015, and stepped aside for nearly a decade.

Things turned dramatic for the host as he gave the audience a piece of his mind on the February 24 episode of "The Daily Show."

The TV veteran got upset as he discussed the decision of the Department of Government Efficiency's budget reductions and the skyrocketing price of prescription drugs.

Stewart voiced a significant concern regarding the pharmaceutical companies receiving substantial subsidies, stating that these companies are only permitting negotiations on the prices of ten drugs.

He pointed out the absurdity of this limited scope, suggesting it would be almost humiliating if the negotiations covered merely a small fraction of the total drugs available.

He also stated the expectation that the American public should have the ability to negotiate prices on all medications, especially considering the financial contributions already made to these companies.

"It would be embarrassing if it was a small drop in the bucket and that the American people didn't expect that we should negotiate for all their f-ing drugs because we have already paid for them with our subsidies!" he exclaimed.

The host reiterated the absurdity of the situation as he smashed his mug on the desk, causing him to shatter it and injure himself. "I'll be going to the hospital soon," Stewart shared as he placed his hand under the desk.

PEOPLE shared that Stewart raised his hand above the desk after the murmur, startling the audience when they noticed it was covered in blood. The collective gasp echoed throughout the room, but he quickly reassured everyone with a laugh, declaring, "It's fine!"

Stewart's injury and the circumstances surrounding it did not go unnoticed by internet users, who gave different opinions on the incident. This user wrote, "Jon Stewart cut his hand. Such a good show. I wish people could be more reasonable and smart like Jon."

Another commenter stated that the show host has always told things as it is. "Jon Stewart literally bled for his monologue. Damn," another X user observed, and proudly so.

The TV host's conclusion about Elon Musk being "The Nick Cannon of white people" caught this user's attention, as they added several laughing emojis to their comment.

Making lemonade out of lemons, the show host gave a reaction to the trending topic on his personal account. "We're back! New Daily Show tonight! It's a bloody good episode...emphasis on bloody... I'm an idiot..." he wrote.

Stewart is, however, yet to speak extensively on the extent of his injury, but he has spoken about paying a visit to the hospital.

The show's official Instagram account also spoke on the incident in a post on their Instagram Story. "TONIGHT: Jon Stewart takes on DOGE and makes some 'cuts' of his own. He's fine. We hope," the handle explained.

Stewart's reemergence on the show last year came with some major adjustments, including overseeing the control room on Mondays and serving as the new executive producer for every episode from January 2024 to 2025.

The Blast shared star had previously made a cameo on the show, including surprising guest host Roy Wood Jr. in April 2023, dressed as "Star Wars" character Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Stewart's history on "The Daily Show" is also quite impressive, as he mentored some of the most prominent figures in the comedy industry. His talents include Stephen Colbert, Trevor Noah, Olivia Munn, Josh Gad, John Oliver, Steve Carell, and many more.

Stewart's new gig on the TV show offered him a way out of being jobless as it coincided with Apple TV+'s cancelation of his TV show "The Problem with Jon Stewart" after a disagreement with Apple executives over the show topics and guests.

Stewart's return to the show was expected to revive its fortunes, especially after criticism arose over the failure to name Roy Wood Jr. as a permanent host last year.

Wood, who served as a correspondent for eight years under Trevor Noah, announced his departure amid gratitude for his opportunities but stated his decision to move on.

He conveyed his unwillingness to wait for a permanent hosting position, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding the role by remarking, "What could they really say? [They're] not going to give me the job just to keep me."

Wood, however, noted that he was still open to returning to the network should they review the terms of his contract to reflect a permanent hosting job.
