MADISON, Wis. (WSAW) - Stratford has defeated Wrightstown 21-6 to win the Division 5 State Championship.
Much of the first quarter was a defensive game from both teams. However, Brooks Vanderhoof had a nice run near the end of the first quarter to put Stratford in scoring range. Jack Tubbs ran it in for an eight-yard touchdown on the first play of the second quarter. After the PAT, the Tigers had a 7-0 lead over Wrightstown.
Wrightstown took over, but that did not last long, Wrightstown launched one deep, but it was intercepted by Jett Schoenherr.
Wrightstown took over and grabbed that momentum, with a 61-yard touchdown run. The PAT was blocked by Xander Curtice. Stratford still had a 7-6 lead over Wrightstown.
Stratford took over and kept that run game going. It started with Vanderhoof and continued with a big run from Tubbs. On that same drive, Tubbs, with help from his offensive line, had another big run to put the Tigers at the goal line. Wrightstown had a big 3rd down stop at the goal line.
Stratford went for it on 4th down. Tubbs connected with Coltan Breit for a touchdown. After the PAT, Stratford had a 14-6 lead over Wrightstown.
Curtice has been the big name in the first half for the Stratford defense. He made two big stops just before halftime, including a sack.

Stratford's run game continued to shine in the second half. Vanderhoof picked up right where he left off in the first half. He had a big 36-yard run to put the Tigers in the red zone. Vanderhoof ran it in at the one-yard line. After the PAT, Stratford took a 21-6 lead over Wrightstown.
Towards the end of the third quarter, the Stratford defense had a big 4th down stop to take over on offense.

Late in the fourth quarter, Wrightstown came up big with a deep pass completion, putting them in scoring range.
They failed to capitalize on that drive, and Stratford closed it out.
