MPD investigating hit-and-run that killed a dog on Madison's west side

MADISON, Wis. -- Madison Police are looking for a driver who struck and killed a dog and drove off on Madison's west side Wednesday morning.

MPD said a woman and her 16-month-old Cockapoo were on a walk around 8:05 a.m. They were crossing Highland Avenue at Kendall Avenue and in the crosswalk at the time of the crash.

A dark sedan coming westbound on Kendall Avenue, turned southbound on Highland Avenue and failed to yield to the woman.

The dog who was on a leash, was struck and killed by the vehicle. The woman was not injured.

The driver stopped for a brief period of time, but reportedly left the area southbound on Highland Avenue toward Regent Street.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the non-emergency dispatch number at (608)255-2345.
