Anne Arundel County has announced that curbside collection services will resume in Service Areas 5, 8, and 15 starting Monday, December 2, 2024. This development follows the resolution of a labor strike that began in September, with Ecology Services, Inc. and Teamsters Local 570 reaching a new collective bargaining agreement.
County Executive Steuart Pittman expressed relief at the agreement, stating, "I'm pleased that curbside collection services will soon return to normal for our residents in Service Areas 5, 8, and 15. I want to congratulate Ecology Services, Inc. and Teamsters Local 570 on reaching an agreement to resolve the strike. I also want to thank our Department of Public Works and the local contractors who stepped up over the past three months to ensure essential services were maintained for our communities."
Residents in the affected areas, which include Pasadena, Severna Park, Odenton, Laurel, and Maryland City, are advised to place trash, recycling, and yard waste at the curb on their usual collection day. Collection delays and schedule disruptions are expected to end during the week of December 2, 2024.
To confirm their service area or collection schedule, residents can use the County's online Find My Collection Day tool by entering their address. For additional information and real-time updates, the free Recycle Coach app is available for download on the App Store and Google Play, or through its desktop site.
Karen Henry, Director of the Department of Public Works, praised the dedication of local contractors and County staff who ensured waste collection services continued during the strike. "Our Department of Public Works team, alongside local contractors MBG Refuse Service, Inc., Gunther Refuse Service, Inc., and Goode Companies, Inc., worked tirelessly -- on evenings, weekends, and days off -- to protect public health and keep our neighborhoods clean," she said. "I deeply appreciate their dedication and hard work throughout this challenging time."
The resolution of the strike and the implementation of the new agreement mark a return to dependable curbside collection services for residents in Service Areas 5, 8, and 15.
