Vonage Appoints Former Avaya and Bandwidth Exec as COO

Vonage has appointed the former Avaya and Bandwidth executive Anthony Bartolo as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Bartolo's responsibilities as COO include leading corporate strategy and technology, increasing the company's market share, and improving its standing within the UCaaS, CCaaS, CPaaS, and Network API sectors.

The global leader in cloud communications, Vonage, revealed that Bartolo will begin working in the role with immediate effect.

Niklas Heuveldop, Vonage CEO and Head of Business Area Global Communications Platform for Ericsson, showed his support for Bartolo taking up the post:

"I am excited to welcome Anthony to Vonage. He is a recognised global leader in technology and transformation, with demonstrated results in driving strategy execution through operational excellence in fast-moving businesses.

"Anthony has the perfect combination of technology and operational expertise to help Vonage drive our execution strategy, advance our capabilities across our core cloud communications business, and ensure our customers have the solutions needed to accelerate their digital and business transformation efforts."

According to Vonage, Bartolo brings with him 30 years of experience within the industry scaling businesses, implementing strategies, and inspiring teams to achieve high growth levels.

Bartolo joins Vonage from Bandwidth, where he also worked as COO, and before that, he worked as Chief Product Officer (CPO) at Avaya.

While at Avaya, Bartolo led the business communications service provider's transition to use a SaaS enterprise model, which resulted in 'significant' customer wins and an 11 times increase in annual recurring revenue.

Bartolo has also served in a number of executive roles at Tata Communications, such as President of Mobility and Chief Product Officer. Here, he successfully designed and introduced an enhanced product strategy, led the company's expansion into new markets, forged strategic partnerships, and increased its geographical footprint.

Vonage describes Bartolo as active within the global tech community, having also served on various boards in organizations around the globe throughout his career.

He attained a bachelor's degree in engineering from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, and has also studied the Corporate Governance Program at UCLA Anderson School of Management and Harvard Business School Management Training.

Bartolo shared his excitement to take up the COO role at Avaya: "Vonage is at a pivotal point in its evolution, and I look forward to working with the team to help realize the company's ambition of advancing the way enterprises operate, communicate, and engage within their organizations and with their customers.

"Vonage has an opportunity to lead the industry in creating a new category of enterprise applications built using advanced network capabilities exposed as APIs.

"I'm honoured to lead Vonage's execution strategy to accelerate its growth today while innovating for the future."

Bartolo arrives on the heels of another key executive appointment at Vonage. Kristy Thomas took on the role of Senior Vice President of Global Channels and Alliances at the company in July this year.

Thomas will be responsible for integrating the company's 'high-growth strategy' for indirect routes to market and overseeing global channels, such as Technology Services Distributors (TSDs), Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), Software as a Service (SaaS), System Integrators (Sis), Resellers, and hyper-scaler partnerships.

This shake-up to Vonage's C-suite follows the company taking on a new CEO at the beginning of the year who, in turn, may be looking to sure up his position with his supporters.
