Improv shows are more like a team sport than stand-up comedy. They require that you can trust your on-stage partners to go along with the premise you create, and not just focus on getting off a good joke. Everyone is working together to get the high score, not just to get the MVP award.
Joe Conto teaches improv - both in Lake Placid and in Montreal. He's also a professor of hospitality and management at Paul Smith's College - a role that also calls on his improv skills. He joined North Words host Mitch Teich to talk about what makes the art of improv so special - and why it's less tied to comedy than you might think.
Conto is also a member of the Improv Stars of Montreal, who will be at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts on October 26th.
