U.S. officials are considering capping sales of advanced AI chips to certain countries in the interest of national security, Bloomberg News reported Monday night.
According to the report, which cited anonymous sources familiar with the matter, the U.S. Commerce Department is in early deliberations over setting a ceiling on export licenses for AI chips -- such as those made by Nvidia Corp. NVDA, Advanced Micro Devices Inc. AMD and Intel Corp. INTC -- on a country-specific basis.
