La Crosse firefighters extricate person after car goes airborne

The city of La Crosse Fire Department responded to a car accident at the corner of Mormon Coulee Road and Birch street at 12:41 p.m. Saturday.

While on the way to the scene, the county dispatch center informed the first responders that the car had gone airborne and took out some powerlines, according to the press release.

Firefighters called Xcel Energy to request utility workers go to the scene. They arrived within 10 minutes.

Firefighters found the car on its side on Birch Street with a person trapped inside. It took 10 firefighters using multiple tools 11 minutes to extricate the person from inside the car, according to the report.

The patient's care was handed over to Gundersen Tri-State but was assisted by Fire Department paramedics in the ambulance on the way to the hospital
