COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (WPRI) -- Rhode Island FC will conclude its historic first season this weekend.
After upsetting three of the four top seeds to win the Eastern Conference title, they are now in Colorado Springs looking to win it all on Saturday.
Rhode Island will play the Switchbacks FC in the USL Championship Final at 12 p.m. on WPRI 12. The teams met once before this season, with Colorado winning 3-1.
If Rhode Island FC wins, they will make history again by being just the second club to win the championship in their inaugural season.
The last time a club made it to the championship match in its first year was Sporting Kansas City II in 2016, and only 2014's Sacramento Republic FC raised the trophy in its inaugural season.
Rhode Island is unbeaten in their last nine matches, setting a new club record. They've also won 15 straight matches when they scored the first goal.
Forward JJ Williams, who has five goals in three playoff matches, is one goal away from tying the USL Championship all-time single-season playoff goal record.
