Hollin Pierce has one of the great stories over the course of his playing career at Rutgers.
The Scarlet Knight left tackle is now being recognized for his efforts.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Pierce has been nominated for the Burlsworth Trophy. This award is given to the most outstanding football player who began his career as a walk-on and has shown outstanding performance on the field.
A product of Trenton Central High School, Pierce walked onto Rutgers in 2020. He underwent an incredible transformation that included getting himself in football shape and becoming one of the best athletes on the team.
In 2021, Pierce was named the most improved offensive player during spring practices. He started for the first time against Syracuse that year in the second game of the season and has not looked back. Pierce is now in his fourth season as the primary starter along the offensive line for the Scarlet Knights.
Pierce was honored in the preseason by being named to On3's Top 100 list and ranked as the 10th offensive tackle by Pro Football Focus.
The Burlsworth Trophy award show will take place on Dec. 9, where the three finalists will be honored and the winner will be announced.
