Thrillist just released their 2024 list of the most haunted places in every state, and their pick for Massachusetts is infamous.
A travel publication, Thrillist focuses on inspiring travel plans where exploration meets culture. With disturbing hotels, abandoned hospitals and horror movie sets, their list of America's most haunted places gives suggestions for the best year-round haunt in each state.
This year's list names the most haunted place in Massachusetts as the Lizzie Borden House, the former house of the primary yet acquitted suspect in the unsolved axe murders of her father Andrew Borden and stepmother Abby Gray in 1892.
This historic home hosts various rooms furnished to look just as they did on the day of the murders, including the eerie living room where the deceased Andrew Borden was found.
If that's not creepy enough, lodgings include the suite of Lizzie and her sister Emma, the room where Abby Gray was found dead and the servant quarters of Bridget Sullivan, the maid who was in the house with Lizzie at the time of the murders. When guests rise for the morning after what is sure to be a night with barely any sleep, they can head down to enjoy breakfast in the dining room - the very room where the autopsies took place.
What Thrillist said: "After a night there, I can attest: This home painstakingly furnished to look exactly as it did on the morning of the murders will creep you right out. The late-Victorian-style property hosts up to 20 overnight guests, one of whom will invariably pull out the house ouija board after the evening guide departs and try to contact Lizzie. I did not sleep a wink."
