WALDORF, Md. -- Firefighters battled a stubborn house fire that caused part of a roof to collapse Thursday afternoon in the White Oak neighborhood of Waldorf.
The fire was reported around 4 p.m. on March 20, 2025, on Progress Court after a 911 caller reported brown smoke coming from a neighbor's roof. When firefighters arrived, smoke was pouring from all sides of the home, with flames visible through the attic.
Roughly 25 minutes after arrival, firefighters reported a partial roof collapse as they worked to contain flames hidden in several difficult-to-access void spaces. Crews remained on scene for an extended period to fully extinguish the fire.
No injuries were reported. SMECO and Washington Gas were requested to respond to the scene. The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office was called to investigate the cause of the fire.
