CEDAR RAPIDS -- Texas Roadhouse will soon be at a slightly different location in Cedar Rapids.
The Texas-themed steakhouse recently broke ground on the space, which previously served as a parking lot for the closed AMC Theatres cinema at 2435 Edgewood Rd. SW -- two doors down from the current Texas Roadhouse at 2605 Edgewood Rd. SW.
The new location plans to open in spring 2025.
Earlier this year, restaurant leadership announced plans to open more restaurants, with buildings about 10 percent larger than the ones the company constructed a few years ago. The new sites will serve higher volumes of guests more efficiently.
An auction for the rest of the vacant movie theater's 7- acre parcel in the Westdale Town Center starts on Dec. 2. The property's starting bid is $250,000.
Its 12-screen, 46,000-square-foot building, constructed in 1998 for Carmike Cinema, was operated by AMC Theatres from 2016 to 2020.
